Just One More Page

Recently, I ran across a blog where the writer was impressed by the fact that her husband had written “I Love You” in the mildew on their deck. I think she may have been more impressed that he was going to clean said mildew off the deck but who am I to say? There are so many ways to say I love you.

One of the ways my husband lets me know that I am special is when he tiptoes around the bedroom to try and let me sleep. This was not always the case. When we first married he would flip the overhead light on and declare it was time to get up. That habit was changed quickly. My favorite hobby is sleeping and if he wants a non-cranky wife he had better ensure me a good night of sleep. We took turns getting up when our children were babies and needed us during the night. That was unless vomit was involved. I dealt better with that and unless I wanted a bigger mess, I dealt with that crises. Marriage is a give and take proposition. He gives and I take. Just kidding!

There have been many nights that I have become engrossed in the latest Harry Potter book and it means the world to me to be able to leave my night stand light on without someone making sighing noises. My heros, Harry Potter and my hubby. Going to sleep with a good book and getting to sleep in. True love.

Wow. I read this and totally thought maybe my wife wrote it. I mean this is us to minute detail. She always deals with the vomit nights as I just don’t do well with puke. But I will go as quietly as I can through the bedroom when the lights are out. And when she’s reading I put a pillow over my eyes so that I can fall asleep while she reads.

    Eerie.

My wife is lucky in this regard. I can barely remember the last time that she stayed up later than me. For me it’s about turning the TV down for my wife so she can sleep. Or when the computer was in the bedroom, being as quiet as I could be so she could sleep. Moving the computer out of the bedroom was a good choice and something we did as soon as we got a little bit bigger place.

Of course, the problem with me staying up later than my wife is that then I have to make an extra effort to get up early with the kids. My wife is extra nice and lets me sleep in often, but if I abuse it and she is ALWAYS waking up with the kids, then I’ll certainly pay the price for it.
